Event Description:
The Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club (PSDC) and Down East Sled Dog Club (DESDC) has opened registration for the first annual Mushing USA Skijor Training Camp and Clinic in Lake Placid, New York to take place on new years weekend 2006/2007.
The training camp will be hosted at the Olympic Sports Complex venue in Lake Placid, NY. The site hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics and is operated by the Olympic Regional Development Authority. The Olympic Sports Complex is one of the most popular Nordic ski venues in the United States and New Years' weekend is traditionally the busiest weekend of the year for the venue, thus providing a great exposure opportunity for the sport of skijoring.
The camp will include one daily skijor session, two daily Nordic skate sessions and two evening lectures. Nordic ski instruction and workouts will be facilitated by Nordic Ski coaches with National, collegiate and high school coaching experience. The camp will also feature a European Nordic coach, sponsored by the Norwegian and Swedish National Federation for Sled Dog Sports.
The "Biathlon side" of the Olympic Sports Complex will be used as the Skijor and Pulka Clinic venue; staging will be facilitated at penalty loop track. The Clinic will be open to the public and take place on Saturday of the event. Instruction will consist of explaining the sport of Skijoring (breeds, equipment, commands, animal welfare and care). Demonstrations will consist of participant's skijoring while being tethered to an instructor. As warranted, participants may be allowed a demonstration run without the aid of an instructor.
