Trail Description:

The trail is a loop race with with a 20% possibility of head on passing in the 6 dog, but it is not a closed loop, meaning you will need Gee/Haw leaders. Parts of the trails are wide dirt roads and other parts are trails through the woods, some of the trails will be well packed and others might not have been groomed since the last snow fall. There are areas where the hills are steep both up and down but also trails that are flat and wide. In most places an "on by" pass is doable as most trails can handle side by side teams. The trails will be marked with color plates and if you have missed a turn or gone down another trail you will see a colored pie plate signifying you missed a turn or are on the wrong trail. You will also have a map with you that will show you the trails. It is actually quite easy as far as navigating and trail markings, but challenging to be on the sled.

This is not a "cakewalk course" even though we are starting out north on Bargy Road South. The four dog teams will go approximately 10 miles and the six dog teams will go approximately 15.5 miles.

There will be a 4 to 5 (non stop) check points, bib number verification, and crossing guards where needed.

The four dog and two dog pulka trail route will be:

Start Chute will be South of CCC Camp on Bargy Road to Tail Trail South to Hessel Road East to Alices Alley South to Teds Turn West to Bargy Road North to Hessel Road West to Franks Fancy South to Winona Way West to Hessel Road North/Hessel Road East to Franks Fancy North to Bargy Road North to Finish Line.

The six dog trail route will be:

Start Chute will be South of CCC Camp on Bargy Road to Tail Trail South to Hessel Road East to Alices Alley South to Teds Turn West to Bargy Road North to Hessel Road West to Franks Fancy South to Winona Way West to Hessel Road North/Hessel Road East to Franks Fancy North to Bargy Road South (Possible 20% head on pass approximately 1.5 miles, wide cart road) to Dog Leg North East to Dog Leg Extention East to Alices Alley North to Hessel Road West to Tail Trail North to Bargy Road North to Finish Line.

We are running on some of the best trails in the world so check out becoming a member of the Winona Forest Recreation Association (WFRA) and help support the trail system!

Event Information:

The trail selection will incorporate dogs' stamina, drivers' abilities and how you work and train together as a team.

Photographer:

There will be professional photographer on site.

Event Rules:

Rules for the Mannsville Quest will follow the format of ISDRA, including trail passing, sled and equipment inspections. There will be checkpoints along the way to help prevent wrong turns because of the interconnecting trail system at the site. These will not be a stop and sign, only a numbers verification by the checker and musher, i.e. the musher will call his number to the official checker, official checker will call the number back to the musher. Once all teams are in and the check points are verified the timers' official posting will stand. The dog yard will be at parking area #4 the Winona State Forest CCC camp.

Protests and race related concerns that happened on the trail should be brought to the race marshal's attention within 15 minutes of finishing the race in a civil manner. Serious complaints will be required in writing after the problem is brought to the race marshal's attention. The race marshal will determine if the complaint should be written up and his judgement is final.

One check point will require drivers to sign their initials on the roster.

Dogs don't have to wear booties, just have a set available for each dog.

Equipment Checked and Carried:
  • Sled bag capable of holding 1 dog. Note requirement for 100 square inches (10" x 10") of mesh for ventilation has been dropped.
  • Brake system on sled.
  • Snow hook
  • Brush bow
  • 1 set of booties for each dog
  • 1 additional tug line (or leash)
  • 1 additional neck line
Dumpster:

There will be a dumpster on site for garbage and dog waste, so you don't have to haul all of that stuff home! Donations are welcome to help pay for the dumpster.
