Event Information:

Skijor Training Sessions

Skijor training will run from 8:00 through 11:00 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Biathlon center of the Olympic Sports Complex. The sessions will be split into two sections where each participant will either skijor or act as a handler for an assigned partner in each section. During the skijor training session race specific skills such as on-by passing, head on passing and mass starts will be practiced. Specific basic skills for dogs new to the sport such as pulling and leading in front will also be facilitated during these sessions.

Nordic Ski Training Sessions

Skate ski training will run from 1:00 through 4:00 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday meeting at the biathlon lodge and utilizing the entire Olympic Sports Complex. All participants will be grouped according to skate ski skill and experience and will be assigned to a Nordic Ski coach that will lead the ski sessions. Individual and group technique instruction and critique will be provided during these sessions with the goal of improving skate ski proficiency on an individual level.

Free Skijor Clinic

A free skijor clinic will run from 11:00 through 1:00 on Saturday at the Biathlon center of the Olympic Sports Complex. This popular program will be open to the public and provide an opportunity for interested parties to try skijoring with trained dogs in a controlled environment. Volunteers from the skijor camp participants are requested for this clinic as we found last year that these types of clinics are great development tools.

New Years Day Fun Relay Race

Before you pack up and head off for home we invite you to come and participate in a fun relay race that will cap off your training camp experience starting at 9:00 at the Biathlon center. Teams of three will be randomly selected among camp participants. The relay race will begin with a mass start 1-dog skijor leg, after teams negotiate a 5K course they will tag off to their teammate that will skate ski the same 5K course, finally after completing the course the skiers will tag off to the final leg of the race, 2-dog skijor teams. An "Olympic Awards and Closing Ceremony" will follow the relay race and will send everyone home with great memories of good friends, fun experiences and great dogs.
