January 3, 2010: Please note that I still do not have a specific event schedule for the racing events, and I do not have registration deadline information. The dates are missing for the deadline and late fee information both on this page and on the registration form. Wait a few days to register until I can post another note advising everyone that this information is final, correct and complete since I have stitched it together from multiple sources.
January 9, 2010: Late fee and schedule are posted and I can confirm the rest of the page is correct.

February 3, 2010: The Massena Dash Event has been CANCELLED due to lack of snow and poor trail conditions. If you have already sent in your registration please contact Nancy Aubrey regarding a refund.
February 4, 2010: In place of the Massena Dash Event the PSDC will be working with the Chamber of Commerce in Massena to run a small demonstration "fun race" for spectators to enjoy on both Saturday and Sunday.

Non refundable entries fee must be paid by mail no later than February 3, 2010. On site entries will be subject to a $10.00 late charge & will be accepted until 8:00am on Saturday, February 6th, 2010.

Event Description:
The Massena Dash is the premier event of the 1st Annual Massena Winter Carnival. The entire Winter Carnival spans over 4 days with Opening Ceremonies scheduled for Thursday, Feb 4th. Friday, Feb 5th features Sled Dog Assemblies all day long at the local elementary schools with a Winter Carnival Parade and Fireworks. On Saturday evening a Mushers Dinner will be held at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. Closing Ceremonies will conclude the event after the sled dog races conclude on Sunday at Hawkins Point. Entry Eligibility Restrictions, Limitations and Requirements:
Purebred teams will need to provide purebred documentation if a dog is in question. American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club documents will be accepted.
As per the Summer 2006 Board meeting it is a new PSDC policy that all participants of PSDC racing events are required to be current PSDC members. Participants who are not current PSDC member may join during the registration process.

Our organizer preferred to not set times for specific events, but the above schedule shows an order of events. This is tentative and may change due to trail conditions.
Note that there may be breaks between groups in grouped classes (e.g. pro, purebred and sportsman groups).

Trail Description:
All trails are loop trails with no head-on passing. Mostly flat with some rolling hills and gentle curves.

Purse Payouts and Awards:
There will be a $5,500 guaranteed purse for this event!
Trophies will be presented to the top 3 competitors in each group within each class (i.e. pro, purebred, sportsman).
Entry and Event Fees:
Sorry, but we cannot accept foreign currency. All fees must be paid in U.S. dollars.

We are calling it Pee-Wee. Open to any entrant who has a child and can supply his/her own dog. 100 yard dash. Must wear helmet.

Dinner:

The dinner will cost $15.00-$25.00. The dining room will hold 90 people. There is no pre-registration necessary.

Directions to the Event:
The race will be held at 21 Hawkins Point Road, Massena, NY, near Robert Moses State Park. This site is slightly northeast of Massena and just south of the Moses-Saunders hydroelectric dam on the St. Lawrence river.

Directions to Massena from the Massena Chamber of Commerce:
From Canada:
Take the 401 to Cornwall (US Bridge/Brookdale Ave Exit) and follow Brookdale Ave/CR 2 East/Provincial Route 138 South. Enter roundabout and take exit to continue following Provincial Route 138 S/Seaway International Bridge. After processing at customs, follow the roundabout to the second exit onto NYS 37 West into Massena, Massena is less than 20 from Cornwall.
From Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse:
Take US 81 North to Alexandria Bay exit 50 N, to NY 12 N which becomes NY State Highway 37 E. Stay on NYS 37 E to Massena.
From Vermont:
Take Interstate 89 north to exit 21 (Swanton). Follow Route 78 west to Rouses Point (Route 78 merges with Route 2). Follow U.S. Route 11 south to Malone: turn right onto Route 37 W to Massena.
From Albany:
Take US 87 N (Adirondack Northway) to Plattsburgh; bear right onto exit ramp 42 (Mooers/Rouses Point) to US 11. Turn left onto 11 and follow US 11 to Malone. Turn right onto NYS 37 W in Malone and continue on NYS W into Massena.
