 \n\nIt was a cold\, clear and sunny Saturday morning on February 4th in Ma
 ssena\, New York. Just across the border from Canada lies this typically c
 old and (to many not involved in dog racing) hostile winter environment. Y
 et\, as we have all experienced the winter of 2011-2012 has been anything 
 but typical with warm temperatures and relatively snowless landscapes. But
  on the property of the New York Power Authority Hawkins Point Visitor Cen
 ter\, Robert Moses State Park was some of the only snow in the north east 
 usable for dog racing. And 60 entries did just that in the 3rd annual Mass
 ena Dash. Pro drivers joined by both pure bred and sport drivers enjoyed t
 he open\, scenic trails that traversed fields and wooded areas along the S
 t. Lawrence River. Drivers were lavished by the treatment they received fr
 om the Massena Chamber of Commerce. Each driver received a large goodie ba
 g upon packet pick up\, a Meet the Musher Dinner was organized on Saturday
  night\, complimentary donuts and coffee were served in a warming tent rig
 ht in the musher parking lot on Sunday morning\, a complimentary van offer
 ed shuttle service to mushers from the parking lot to the nearby main buil
 ding of the visitor center\, and drivers enjoyed a complimentary pizza par
 ty at the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. \n\n                Competi
 tors traveled from Canada\, Vermont\, New York\, New Jersey\, Virginia\, M
 aryland and Pennsylvania. There was tough competition in both the 4 and 6 
 dog classes. Mushers enjoyed the lyrical vocal heralding of a professional
  race car announcer upon their departure and subsequent completion of the 
 course. New Jersey musher Laura Anderson asked “What do you get when you r
 eplace NASCAR fire suits with snow suits and stock cars with (sled) dogs? 
 - The Messana Dash!   The most racing fun on snow”!   Joe Comeno said “the
  Massena Dash was a great event\, it was one of the best run events I have
  ever been to in my mushing career. I enjoyed the trail\, seeing old frien
 ds again and the hospitality. I look forward to running this race again”. 
 Organizers are looking forward to growth in the 8 dog\, junior and ski-jor
  classes in the future. Hope to see you in Massena in 2013.\n\nSubmitted b
