Snow In Central New York!

Postby Mostlyhounds » Wed Dec 06, 2006 2:26 pm

Weve received 16-18"" here in Winona area (Boyslston) and 24+ at Salmon Hills. All trails are groomed with Snowmobile and rolled; We will have the big groomer out this Week (Thursday).
Not certain as to grooming yet in Winona. But, snow IS sufficient for sure! Probably not enough for grooming in wooded loops yet.

Warm Temps and rain coming (hopefully NOT) this way apparently.
Snowmobiles were out in Winona. Looks like 4-6" base.

At Salmon Hills we have 4-12" base but its packed down with Pisten Bulley groomer. Rain expected as well. We'll see?
We have the ability (at Salmon Hills) to take whats left on the sides of trail and plow most of it back on the trails if it gets cold!

We had both parking lots full at Salmon Hills this weekend and a few skijorers as well showed! So, if your desperate for SNOW, dont hesitate to call or check the conditions. Its HILLY there, but its SNOW!!

Well, I guess this is a new thread for 2008 for all that want to know.
Central NY is getting hammered right now. Salmon Hills has been open for 3 weeks (a new record) with 2' packed snow and 4 feet off trail depth.
Winona has approx. 4' of snow since I last checked but wont' start grooming til Monday the 8th after hunting season is over.
Look for wet spots however, since the trail system never froze before we started getting snow.

Winona hasn't been groomed too well lately, but we are getting snow as I write. Probably a 8" base in Winona with fresh snow I would think they would be out grooming again.
Salmon Hills is ideal right now, only small dog teams allowed and MUST be off the trail by 10am sharp!!
18-24" base packed powder, firm with a slight 1/2" till on surface.
Will be out this weekend packing some more.

Winona Forest is now under new grooming organizers and doing much better.
Snow is PLENTIFUL and all trails are gorgeous!
